How long do they burn for?
- Basically, between 2 and 3 hours. But this question totally depends on whether you burn them in an open fire or in a wood or multi fuel stove. In an open fire using just three briquettes, they can last as much as two and a half hours, and when you add a little coal before lighting the fire this can be extended to beyond three. When you are burning our Hardwood Bio-Briquettes with another fuel such as coal, peat or even logs, the burn time is extended simply because there is more fuel available to soak up the flames. When burning three of our briquettes in a stove, they can easily last three hours before needing another thrown on, providing you burn them correctly. The best method is to place three (or more if you have a large stove) Briquettes on your grate in a pyramid formation, with a small gap in between the bottom two Briquettes. Place a fire lighter, or some scrunched up paper in the middle and light with a match. Close the door to your stove and leave your vents/drawers open for between 7 and 10 minutes. Once the fire is going and the Briquettes are giving off large roaring flames, close your vents/drawers right down; if you have a modern stove, do not close the vent that is specifically designed for shutting off your fire, if you don't know whether or not you have one of these then you probably don't. The briquettes are so dry that they need hardly any air flow at all in order to give off large flames and burn for hours at the same time. Using this method with logs would often result in the fire being extingushed, simply because logs need lots of air flow in order to keep them burning otherwise their high moisture levels will suffocate the fire. Once the briquettes have burnt down to a small pile of roasting hot ash, throw another one or two on and within a few seconds your fire will be roaring once more. We recommend that you leave the embers burning as long as possible before adding more briquettes because even though the fire looks to be out, it will still be pouring out a ridiculous amount of valuable heat, and we want you to get the absolute maximum benefit from our Hardwood Briquettes.
